Earlier this year I set out on a mission to learn how to crochet again. Back when I was like 10, my mom put my sister and I in crochet lessons at the local craft store. Back then, all I remember making was a square (lol – pot holder maybe?). My way craftier sister made slippers. She is definitely the more creative one.
I do remember that it was so fun! So as part of my mission to do more fun things outside of work, I thought I’d take up crocheting again.
Also, I thought (re)learning would be so much easier now that YouTube is a thing. 😝
Plus, with the power of the internet, anything is possible.
Huge shout out to Yarnspirations.com! I found them when looking to buy yarn online and absolutely fell in love with their platform. Not only do they sell yarn, they provide patterns — most of which are free — and they list out the exact materials you need to complete the project.
This particular scarf is called Pump Up the Volume Crochet Super Scarf. I fell in love with the size of it! It looks like something I would buy in the store so naturally, I wanted to make it.
Side note: While I love crocheting, I don’t want my projects to look granny-like…. I mean, the fact that I enjoy crocheting is already granny-like enough for me.
The pattern itself is very easy to follow. My ideal crochet project is one that I can reasonably do while binge watching Luther on Netflix.
I also love that it’s all one color. I’m not fancy enough to be able to switch between colors yet. One day….
Lastly, I loved that this pattern had a YouTube video that I could follow along with. I’m starting to understand shorthand crochet speak but it’s still so much easier for me to learn by watching someone else do it.
All in all, I’m quite please with how it turned out, tassels and all.
Besides this scarf, I’ve made two lopsided blankets and a simple circle scarf that I gave to my mom. I find that, like everything else in life, the more I crochet, the better my projects turn out.
What craft projects are you working on? Leave a comment below. I’d love to check it out!
