Being a Puppy Mommy

If you’ve been keeping up with my videos, you recently saw that I moved in with my boyfriend and fellow YouTuber, Brent Blogs. Well, not only did I have the challenge and adventure of moving to an entirely different country, I also adopted two step-puppies. That’s what happens when you become a couple right. You have to share all your stuff?

Being a step-puppy Mommy has had its challenges. Like, I no longer show any external displeasure to picking up the poops (well, I might frown a bit but I have no idea who’s laughing while doing the dirty deed). I also have accepted the fact that dog hair will cover everything I own. Like everything. I’ve also learned the valuable lesson of putting my shoes away since a certain 9 month old black lab loves to chew on my favorite slippers.

The puppies are adorable, they really are. Having never owned a dog before, I was a bit put off by the idea of having to take care of an animal that had no sense of attatchement to. It’s a wonderfully weird feeling to come home to beings who are so happy to see you ALL. THE. TIME. I don’t know if there is anything close to it. Because even if you have kids or a significant other, they aren’t always glad to see you. People can be moody. Doggies are never moody. Unless you count being happy that you exist a mood.

Loving these dogs is something I always knew would happen, but I never imagined it happening so suddenly. I’ve only been here for 3 weeks!

Ok so the point if this blog wasn’t to brag about my puppies… well actually that was the point. Moving on, Stirling, the 80lb black lab/border collie hasn’t enjoyed eating his food lately. I remember a time when I could barely set the bowl down, and he was inhaling his food like he hasn’t eaten in years having no idea when his next meal will be. I think this is quite typical of a 9 month old puppy. What isn’t typical is sniffing the food in disdain and walking into the other room. Puppy daddy and I were baffled.

But we found a solution! Apparently, we haven’t been sealing the dog food bags properly (read: not at all), so the food was stale. Poor Stirling just didn’t want stale food. Puppy daddy suggested I sprinkle some water on his food and mix it in with a little wet food. Voila! It worked like a charm. We’re going to get new food this weekend but for now, this solution works. I feel like such a proud puppy parent!
