It’s that time of year where I write down a my goals and hold myself accountable to those goals. This year, I’ve struggled a bit with them and I think it’s because I have an unreasonably high expectation that I’ll be able to do all the things.
So I’ve ditched my traditional yearly to do list and I’m focusing on more of what I want to feel this year (with a few action items in order to feel those feelings). As a side note: this “focus on feeling” idea didn’t just pop into my little ol’ head randomly. I wrote a blog post last year on the concept.
My 2018 Word of the Year: Authenticity
Basically, I’ve done what we all occasionally do… I’ve tried to change my habits because someone else said I should. That’s definitely a recipe for a big fat fail. So this year, I’m focusing on doing me. It honestly sounds super cliché but I don’t care. I’m going to be 100% me and not worry too much about anything else.
How I Want to Feel
1 // Confident
Last year I saw myself slowly regaining my confidence through sessions with my life coach. In 2018, I want to continue the confidence building practice. I don’t know where this lack of confidence stems from, to be honest, but I know that I’m too hard on myself. I tear myself down constantly and it’s been very damaging to my confidence.
This damaging behavior has been even harder with the weight of a business on my shoulders. I made some costly mistakes in 2017 but I also had some huge wins. My brain wants to stick to those mistakes. Going forward, I want to be more intentional about focusing on the wins.
Action Item: Love myself no matter what.
2 // Meaningful
This past year, I’ve been struggling with the big ol’ question: what are we here for. And boy, is that a doozy. I don’t nearly have it figured it out and I don’t think anyone does.
What I do know is I want to create a space around me that has more meaning. I spent the past year working so hard on my business that I neglected other things in life that add meaning and value outside of work.
Action Items: Create work projects that bring me joy and intention. Do more of the things that I enjoy like crochet, playing piano, and riding my bike.
3 // Healthy
I absolutely need to do the things that make me feel healthy. I actually should have said this one first since it’s my top priority for the year. I work from home sitting in one spot all day long. This sedentary lifestyle means I need to add in things every day that give me movement.
Action Items: Do more yoga. Go for walks. Eat more food that is wholesome. Drink way more water.
What are your 2018 goals?
